ABSTRACT

Objective@#To evaluate the plaque distribution on the fitting surface of fixed implant prostheses which were supported by multi-unit abutment. @*Methods @# 21 patients with maxillary full-arch implant-supported fixed prostheses were collected. Plaque accumulation at the fitting surfaces were evaluated 3 months after restoration, by analyzing the digital photographs recorded by Imag e J 2.1.4.7.@*Results@#The average percentage of area covered with plaque was (46.13 ± 7.23)%. Plaque accumulation on the buccal and palatal area were (41.53 ± 3.08) and (53.76 ± 3.07)% respec⁃ tively, with a significant difference (t = 16.750, P < 0.001). The free area (71.86 ± 2.00) % was significantly higher than the anterior area (48.85 ± 2.09)% (t = 40.445, P < 0.001), andalso the middle area (49.33 ± 0.98)% (t = 47.124 , P < 0.001). The plaque percentage was higher when the distance between the implants was shorter.@*Conclusion@#To Minimize the palatal extension and free area of the prostheses, and to maximize the distances between the implants, were helpful to improve the oral hygiene control. It might be the key to keep a good outcome of the maxillary full-arch implant-supported fixed prostheses.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the application and therapeutic effect of modified neurovascular flaps nourished by sural nerve and small saphenous venous, or saphenous nerve and great saphenous venous.

METHODSAccording to the anatomy and recipient area, we made some modifications for the two neurovascular flaps. 1) The small and great saphenous venous were ligated or anastomosed with the venous in recipient area; 2) The flap was delayed for 8 - 14 days if the donor area was above the middle and upper one third of leg; 3) The sural nerve and its branch were anastomosed to the nerve in recipient site to restore the sense of flap; 4) the lower turning point could be designed just 3 cm above the point of internal and external malleolus; 5) Partial gastrocnemius or soleus muscle could be included in the flap if needed; 6) Reversed cross leg flap was considered if the adjacent flap in the affected side could not be used. Sometimes, we adopted more than one modification in one patients.

RESULTSFrom Sep, 1994 to Apr, 2007, 63 cases were treated, including 51 cases of sural and 12 cases of saphenous neurovascular flaps. Partial necrosis (about 1 - 2 cm width) happened in the distal end of flaps in 2 cases which healed after dress changing. The patients were followed up for 3 months to 2 years with satisfied functional and cosmetic results.

CONCLUSIONSThese two modified flaps have reliable blood supply and survival rate. The operation is easily performed and very practical. The flaps, or combined with other methods can repair about 70% of the refractory defects in legs.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the skull characteristics of the Li people in Hainan through 3-D CT.

METHODSCT scan and 3-D reconstruction are very helpful for the cephalometry including the distance and angle measurement. The image can also be enlarged to make the measurement more precisely. 80 Li volunteers underwent the cephalometry through 3-D CT. The data were analyzed and compared with those an people.

RESULTSThe results showed difference between the genders of Li people. Compared with Han people, Li people has their own facial characteristics, such as wider face and wider orbital distance.

CONCLUSIONSCephalometry through 3-D CT can show the skull characteristics precisely. The data in this study has great significance in craniomaxillofacial surgery and ethnology.

ABSTRACT

Objective To report the method for repair of the heel and ankle.Method On the basis of applied anatomy, the reversed island flap based on sural neurovascular pedicle has been designed for repair of heel and ankle defects. Results The flaps have been used in 14 cases, the maximum size 9 cm×15 cm,and all flaps were survival compeletely except partial necrosis in one flap. Conclusion The blood supply of the flap is good. The length of pedicle can reach 12 cm.It is an effective method for repair of heel and ankle defects.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the method and efficacy of repairing cup ear deformity. Methods The mild cup ears were corrected by V-Y advanced flaps and retroauricular flaps(seventeen ears),and the severe cup ears corrected by rotate composite flaps of concha auriculae and retroauricular flaps(six ears). The donor defects were sutured in place in seven cases and repaired by skin grafting in six cases. From March 2000 to November 2005,sixteen cases(twenty-three ears),eleven patients were male and five female, with age range from eight to thirty-six years, were treated by the procedures mentioned above.Among them, twelve cases were mild cupping(five bilateral ears) and four cases severe cupping(two bilateral ears). Results All flaps survived with primary healing after operation.Follow-up from six months to two years showed that all the patients had achieved satisfactory appearance of external ear and obvious improvement of contour of auricle and cavity of concha. Conclusion V-Y advanced flap and rotate composite flap are effective methods for the correction of cup ear deformity. The rational using of retroauricular flap and fixation of contour of auricle and cavity of concha are also the key points for the operation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the method of reducing the formation of fibrous capsule by means of changing the surface capacility of silicone breast implants. Methods N vinyl pyrrolidone ( N VP),the hydrophilic monomer, was grafted onto the surface of silicone breast implants by 60 C oradiation. 10 rabbits were used in this study and the implants were buried in the bilateral subcutaneous layers of the back of rabbits. The unchanged implants were used as the control group. At various interval, gross and microscopic examinations were made to observe the fiber capsule formation around the implants. Results Compared with the control group, the grafting implants induced slight histological reaction and the thickness of fiber capsule was decreased statistically in every time point ( P
